LISTEN: Andrew Thoreen Proves Captivating On Rugged “Do Right By You” (feat. J.E. Sunde)

Check out the strange and beautiful new single, “Do Right By You” from Andrew Thoreen. With an old-world sonic feel, that rings with a Dr. Dog old-timey meets new odor, Thoreen is innovative with his bass and synth color, while dynamically tickling our senses with dancing vocals and off-beat horn placement. The song is rich and sturdy while vulnerable and innovative, a lovely combination forging a potent indie-folk creation.

Har-Di-Har - We Scare Each Other

"We Scare Each Other" caught my attention for its unique experimental approach. The intricate layers of instrumentation elicit comparisons to the likes of Broken Social Scene and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, a combination that's sure to win over experimental indie rock fans near and wide.

Album Review: Har-di-Har — we will will you

When Julie and Andrew Thoreen, formerly of Cedar Falls, started work on their newest (and first full length) album as Har-di-Har, we will will you, it was on the heels of an uncertain time in their lives both as a band and as a married couple. In their press release, they say the songs were written during a “season of separation.”

J.E. Sunde on Americana UK

‘9 Songs About Love‘ is JE Sunde’s third solo record and what a supremely melodic pop-folk treat it is. It’s simple, wide-eyed loveliness may surprise, considering the LP was born from Sunde’s realisation that he might be at something of a crossroads in his life. Years of hard yakka touring and recording with family and friend in his gem of a folk band The Daredevil Christopher Wright and a couple of solo records had garnered sporadic attention, some slight critical props and a small yet eager band of admirers but not sign of a commercial breakthrough.

The Current - Friday Five: Andrew Thoreen (Har-di-Har)

Andrew Thoreen (Har-di-Har) rolls out one of the most clever lyric video conceits I've seen in a long time. It's paired with a gentle, punchy song, a little reminiscent of the Postal Service.

Exclusive: Andrew Thoreen - "I Know What It Takes"

Andrew Thoreen is a prolific songwriter and musician based in the Twin Cities, who has been doing this whole "making music" thing for a long while now. You might know him from his work with J.E. Sunde, his own band Har-di-Har (with partner Julie), his individual work under andandending, as a trombone player, or just as someone you've met in the music scene around Minneapolis or St. Paul. Yet he took time this past year to remove himself from this social network, to work on making new music – an endeavor often fraught with depression, anxiety, and isolation, despite the stereotypical glamorous appeal and reputation of being a musician.
