Andrew Thoreen

Independent Christian Musician

Songwriter, Producer, Arranger, Improviser, Multi-instrumentalist and Teaching Artist.

I have been called an avant-garde pop traditionalist with outsider art sensibilities. For a majority of my creative career I've wavered between being an agnostic and notional Christian. It wasn’t until he became a born again Christian in 2020 that I sought to infuse my understanding of Christian theology and philosophy into my work as a songwriter.

Today

After spending years working as an improviser, session musician, and touring musician (outside of PRINTS) I am on hiatus as a performing artist as I spend most of my time as a recording and teaching artist--producing in my home studio and working with students to teach them how to be creative and express ideas through the study and creation of music.

I reside in Saint Paul Minnesota with my wife Julie and our two children.

Teaching

With over 20 years of experience, I’m passionate about guiding students through the craft of music—whether learning an instrument or exploring the creative process of songwriting and production. From private lessons to group classes and creative project-based learning, I offer a hands-on approach that encourages collaboration and growth. Explore my teaching offerings and discover how we can create music together.

Career Highlights

I spent the better part of my career co-founding and writing for the art-pop project Har-di-Har and was a side-man and arranger for the songwriter J.E. Sunde for many years. I have been working on a long-term project of rearranging and covering all of the songs off of The Shaggs album Philosophy of the World for the last five years. Ever so often I still play bass and trombone with the improvising loop-based trio PRINTS. I have also been working on a Christian art-song project called Alaylon with my wife Julie where they set text from the Bible to music.
